Scope of Work

The working Lead Hand holds the position of second in command on the job site and operates under the supervision of the Foreman. Their primary responsibility is to assist the Foreman in accomplishing tasks in a safe and efficient manner. This includes a range of duties such as tree and shrub planting, receiving and unloading plant material, soil placement and grading, mulch and aggregate spreading, as well as the installation and removal of T-bars. Additionally, the working Lead Hand is responsible for site clean-up activities and providing regular updates on the progress of the maintenance site. They play a vital role in promoting and teaching safe working procedures to the crew members, while also performing other manual jobs that may be required. Furthermore, the working Lead Hand operates small machines and hand tools to complete various tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of landscaping experience.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Possesses a valid Ontario G Driver’s license.
  • Positive attitude and good communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well with others.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple responsibilities.

Major Duties & Responsibilites

  • Wears clean uniform and PPE.
  • Follows company policies and procedures.
  • Reports injuries and property damage to the Foreman.
  • Maintains professionalism and emphasizes health and safety.
  • Instructs and trains employees on safe practices.
  • Reports hazards and near misses.
  • Ensures trained operators use company machinery.
  • Reports and investigates incidents in the Foreman’s absence.
  • Assists the Foreman with layout and coordination.
  • Monitors materials and communicates supply needs.
  • Maintains a clean and organized site.
  • Ensures work meets specifications and eliminates deficiencies.
  • Communicates with the Foreman about deficiencies or issues.
  • Participates in weekly Toolbox Meetings.
  • Performs assigned duties.

Physical Efforts:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs and be physically fit.
  • Performs repetitive tasks and manual labor for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Working hours from 7am-6pm, Monday to Friday, and alternate Saturdays.
  • Requires focus on machines and equipment on the job site.
